SKT Session 21 (7/4/23): Moving Through Time
With their friends Adonis and Lucien dead, the party decided to split up accomplishing individual tasks for a while.
Joren and Thestryl went to Neverwinter in an attempt to aid the Harpers in overthrowing the current leader of Neverwinter, Lord Neverember, and bringing the person who they claimed to be the "rightful heir to the throne" to power. Attending one of the weekly meetings in Neverwinter, they found out some surprising news.
"By the request of Reina Alagondar, the Harpers will no longer be involving themselves in this political battle."
After a failed attempt to retrieve a document from one of Neverember's homes, anyone in Neverwinter who was suspected of being involved with the Harpers was interrogated and apprehended. As a result, Neverember's political opponent, Reina Alagondar, requested the Harpers leave Neverwinter so that innocent civilians were not caught in the crossfire. After finding this out, Joren and Thestryl decided to seek out Reina herself. Before departing from the meeting, Thestryl informed the head of operations for the Waterdhavian Harpers that she would be assisting the party for a while.
Meeting up with Reina, Joren and Thestryl learned she claimed to be the rightful heir to the throne by way of blood. The ruling family was the Alagondars for centuries until they fell from power as a result of a series of odd deaths. She had explained that she wished to take the throne peacefully, either by the support of the people or by concrete proof that she indeed had royal blood. She also told Joren and Thestryle about her husband, presumably still living in Helm’s Hold, who called an assassination attempt on her, inadvertently killing their two children. Seeing the two adventurers wanted to support her campaign, she said it would be helpful for them to spread the word of the Alagondar bloodline’s return to Neverwinter, or go see if there is any crumb of proof of her bloodline in her old home in Helm’s Hold.
Back in Helm's Hold, Seamus sewed himself some new clothes and attended temple, doing his best to learn about Helm and the ways of his worshippers. In a dream, he was visited by Lucien once again. Seamus asked how Lucien was able to communicate with Helm, how he was able to learn information from his visions and prayers.
"Helm is very indirect. You have to look more within yourself than anywhere else. I found that the answers were in my head all along. Let me show you something I saw."
Lucien touched his finger to Seamus' forehead, pulling Seamus to a dark cave. A blue dragon was sitting among the sand and treasure, gargoyles surrounding her, lightning crackling behind her eyes.
Seamus decided to try to seek out a vision on his own, and focused inward. He felt himself transported to a dark, musty place. He could feel himself rocking, an aroma of ocean water about the air. In front of him was a large humanoid figure, bound by chains.
"Like I told you before, I didn't think the marble actually did anything. It's amazing that you've figured out what it does!"
Dhrys tracked Maranplen down to Yartar to about the marble. She didn’t know much about it, but together, they were able to discern more information about it. The marble seemed to transport Dhrys back to an older timeline, where he takes the place of a previous version of himself, creating a new, previously not existing, timeline. When he leaves a timeline, he destroys that version of himself, which causes him to see ghosts, shadows of his previous selves destroyed with the timelines. One of his eyes went dark and cloudy. Dhrys decided to isolate himself for a while, to train and interact with these ghosts.
After about a week, each member of the party heard a violent psychic call for help.
"Please! All of you come quick, there's-"
Lady Silverhand's voice was cut short. Unsure of what was happening, the party rushed to Waterdeep to find one of the walking statues of Waterdeep blasted in half, and a large blue dragon off in the distance, shooting lighting and setting buildings aflame. A lone red dragonborn moved against the townsfolk fleeing the scene, quelling flames as he went.
