SKT Session 9 (1/17/23): The Other Lost Mine
The next morning, the party woke up to find Adonis missing, his room empty and undisturbed other than a chair facing the door with a silver potion atop it. Dhrys recognized this chair placement as a message in Theives' Cant, basically stating that Adonis was gone, but there was no need for worry.
With a free day ahead of them, the party decided they wanted to do some shopping, then take on one of the missions given to them by Haara.
Lucien and Kimberly made some purchases at the general store, then found a small magic shop called "M's Wondrous Wares". There, they met an odd woman with purple hair, who offered them a wide array of magical items to purchase. Kimberly settled on buying some potions.
Everyone having checked out the wares at this magical pop-up shop, the party decided to move onto the mission that Haara had given them: to investigate the disappearance of two of her adventurers.
The party quickly made their way to the cave entrance south of Phandalin, then followed the offshoot of the road Haara told them about. The cavern entrance was found easily enough, and inside, the party saw a creature, circular in shape, levitating off the ground, with one big eye that was shut. It seemed to be sleeping.
In an attempt to sneak up on it, the party established a telepathic connection with one another, and began to move silently into the cavern. At the first transmittance of a thought, however, the large eye on the creature opened up, and began to well with tears.
"Master...?"
The creature, looking at the party, grew angry.
"You're not Master!"
Four eyestalks extend from the creature and open, as two dark, ghastly figures sprout from the ground of the cavern. The party fought hard, sending one ghastly figure fleeing, destroying the other, and slaying the creature.
The rest of the cavern was short mines that had only just been started. They realized the two ghastly figures must have been the missing adventurers that Haara asked them to find. On the way back out onto the main road, Lucien saw two spectral figures engaged in cheerful conversation, one dressed in arcane attire, and the other adorned in heavy armor. These had to be the ghosts of the brothers. Lucien informed the party that the brothers' spirits were at peace, and the party made their way back to Phandalin.
Returning to Phandalin right at nightfall, the party made their way back to Haara's office so that they could collect their reward. Walking into the Townmaster's Hall, they found the door slightly ajar. Walking in, they saw the Haara, held by Adonis, with a knife sticking out of her chest.
